Is Your Site Not Ranking As Well As It Should: I’ve reviewed my share of websites over the years. Through much hands-on experience, through trial and error — I’ve come to learn what works and what doesn’t. Search Engine Optimization can be a funny thing. What might work extremely well for one site, might not work at all for another. This isn’t just something that occurs, there’s a reason to every rhyme, there’s a science to how things must be done.
Google has recently made a public announcement through one of their finest engineers, asking website owners to submit their website through a Google Docs form – for thos of you website owners who feel that your website isn’t ranking as well as “you think” it should be ranking in Google. Matt Cutts (the head of Google’s web spam team) said that they’ve yet to only receive a couple hundred submissions and would appreciate receiving more.
Do You Think You Deserve Better Rankings?
Truth is, if your site is the BEST in your niche, then you “might” deserve a #1 Google ranking. Fact is, it’s rare that I see many PERFECT websites, when asked to review websites. Unless your site is monetized thoroughly, with rewarding content, content that will make your readers fall in love with your site — then chances are slim to none that you deserve a first page Google ranking, let alone a #1 ranking.
If you’re having trouble with your website rankings, then you’re at the stage where you should have hired (or already hired) a reputable SEO company to look everything over and maybe even do some solid SEO work for you. Many businesses become highly successful — via top Google rankings alone. SEO is not something to play around with and should be taken seriously.
A Few Reasons Why Your Website Might Be Failing
The majority of website handicaps are due to, what I like to call “website infections”. If you’ve ever purchased cheap link building packages, had your website blasted with a large quantity of link spam or Blackhat link building of any kind (used fiver services for link building) or done anything similar — chances are your website has become “infected”.
As strange as it may sound, it’s true. I can’t begin to tell you how many websites I’ve worked on, including many of my own, over the years — where I’ve seen this. Moreover — the science behind ranking a website is as wide as the oceans. As each website is extremely unique in nature, there are far too many variables that come into play, to diagnose one website, the same as another. Never has one strategy worked for two websites, each website must be optimized with uniqueness.
The DIY SEO Trend Is Hurting You
The majority of websites in which received a Google Penguin penalty, was the websites where the website owner (a non SEO) done his/her own SEO. I wouldn’t refer to this as SEO, I’d refer to this as practicing. We all must learn through trial and error, though let it not be on our own businesses or personal websites.
Should I Submit My Site To Google?
From what I’ve seen so far, being that this practice is very new — Matt Cutts has stated that he has had the time to look into some of the website submissions. Meg Geddes, (a.k.a., @netmeg), who is well-known in online marketing circles, has had some back and forth tweets with Matt Cutts. These conversations prove that he has been personally reviewing many of the submissions himself.
If you think it would help you to do this, then do it. I’m not 100% sure that they’re reviewing these websites, then repositioning them. I assume that what’s happening, is they’re reviewing some of these websites that aren’t ranking well, for research purposes only. Then again, that could grow into something more, as time passes, who knows.
My suggestion to you: Find an reputable SEO that you trust and hire him/her to work for you long term. Stay far away from Blackhat practices of any kind and keep it simple. Continue to focus on building a quality website, building out quality content and everything else will follow.
